Aberdeenshire Wildlife Explorers

Last updated: 07/10/2024

Aberdeenshire Wildlife Explorers (formerly Kemnay Wildlife Explorers) welcome children and young people aged 8-12, from a wide area to the north west of Aberdeen, including Inverurie, Kemnay, Kintore and surrounding areas.

Monthly meetings are usually held on the last Friday or Saturday of the month (except July and December).

We have our Bronze Wildlife Action Award and are on our way towards Silver.

We often visit Bennachie to go looking for wildlife or foraging for fungi and have made homes for bats, owls and hedgehogs at the Centre there. We have also visited the Nature Reserve at Muir of Dinnet, taken a boat trip to see the seabirds at Fowlsheugh and watched the geese returning to roost at Loch of Skene. In winter we do nature-based activities indoors and sometimes bring in experts to tell us more about our local wildlife and how we can help. Every year in January the group participates in the Big Garden Birdwatch and submit our results to RSPB.

Cost is £2 per meeting.
